The uppermost left corner indicates the Mana Cost of the card. It indicates the amount of mana deducted to your total mana if you use this card. Each player has a limited total mana so he/she must be wise on choosing the right cards to maximize his/her mana cap. 

The four numbers presented in the card’s middle portion are its STATS. There are four major stats that each card possesses. First is its physical power (represented by the blade icon with number “2” in the card) which can be in the form of melee, ranged, or magic attack depending on the cards’ splinter. Next, is its speed (represented by the blue circle with boots written with number “6”), this indicates the order in which the card attacks. We also have the armor stat (represented by the shield icon with number “2” in the card above), the higher its armor stat, the more damage it can absorb. Finally, we have the health (represented by the heart icon) which when became zero means that your enemy obliterated your card.

Splinterlands Monster Card Guide

After you get a glimpse of Splinterlands cards, let’s delve deeper to the most important card type: the monster cards. There are three monster card types:

• Melee Cards: Placed in the frontlines, they possess high protection and health stats compared to other monster cards.
• Range Attack Cards: Placed at the back row, they are long-ranged damage dealers. Its attack damage reduces if you place them at the frontline.

Game Modes

There are four ways to play Splinterlands:

• How to play: Learn here the basic game rules and concepts including card types, stats, and other attributes. Your goal here is to absorb all essential knowledge in playing Splinterlands. 
• Practice: This mode allows you to improve your skills and knowledge of the game by fighting with other players. Don’t worry because losing in practice mode will not affect your current rank.
• Challenge: If you want to invite some friends and fight against each other, this mode is for you. This is the “custom” mode of the game. Don’t worry because losing in Challenge mode will not affect your rank.
• Ranked: This game grants you more rewards if you’re victorious. Fighting in ranked matches allows you to climb up the Splinterlands leaderboards.

Playing Ranked or Practice battle matches you to another Splinterland player. The usual rule of the game is Standard. That means that each player has a total of 25 mana and there are only limited types of splinters that you can use. 

To select the game mode you want to play, just refer to the upper portion of the screen. 

Creating a Team

After knowing the game rules, you’re now ready to create a team. A Summoner is the first card you must select. The game team building screen allows you to choose a summoner from your collection. Be careful in picking your summoner because it will determine what monsters you can summon. Furthermore, the level of a Summoner is related to the level of your monsters so it’s advisable to check your summoner’s capabilities beforehand to increase your winning odds.

Once you’ve picked a summoner, it’s time to pick the monsters. Note that monsters that you can summon depend on your summoner’s splinter. For instance, if you pick a summoner from the fire splinter, then you can summon monsters of the fire splinter only. However, you can summon “neutral monsters” as well that do not belong in any splinter.

Positioning your team

While picking your summoner and monsters, you also need to position them in the game’s battlefield. The battlefield allots two rows to each player with six slots. The front row is where melee (or magic) attackers are usually positioned here while the back row is the place for ranged attackers. There’s also one reserved spot for the team’s summoner. 

If a monster dies, the monster behind it will move to that vacant position. This process continues until no monster is left in the battlefield. 

If you want to change the position of your monsters, just simply drag the card to your preferred slot. 

After picking and positioning your team, it’s time to fight. Click the BATTLE button to submit it and proceed. 

Team Combat

Combat in Splinterlands is automatic. Once you hit the RUMBLE! Button, your monsters will automatically fight each other. All you need to do is to watch the battle and wait for it to finish. You can also opt to fast forward it or pause it if you want. You’re also not required to watch it at all. You can just click “Skip to results” if you want since the battle is actually just a “replay” of the blockchain transaction working backstage. 

Guide to Earn in the Splinterlands card game

Playing ranked games is the best way to earn money in Splinterlands. Your earnings depend on your current rank and performance. Note that you need to reach Bronze 2 so that you can earn in every battle. 

Dark Energy Crystals (DEC), which is Splinterlands’ official cryptocurrency, is the reward that you can get every time you win ranked matches. Note that the USD equivalent of DEC varies depending on market conditions so the real-money earnings you can get by playing Splinterlands is not fixed.

2. Season Rewards: Top Splinterlands players get some DEC rewards at the end of season. For instance, the Splinterlands Champions League top player gets around 200,000 DEC

3. Selling Cards: If you sell your Splinterlands card, you get DEC in return. The price of a selling card depends on their type. Low card types cost 40 to 50 DEC while legendary cards cost up to  hundreds to thousands of DEC. 

4. Renting out Cards: You can rent out your cards to other players using Splinterlands rental market. This provides you a passive stream of income even if you don’t want to spend time playing the game. The more cards you rent out, the higher your earnings will be.
